Caring for your saree

Wrap your saree in muslin or mul cloth — never plastic. Refold along a different line every 3 months to prevent permanent creases. Store away from direct sunlight.

Dry-clean only for the first wash. For Maheshwari handlooms, gentle hand wash in cold water is acceptable thereafter. Never machine wash silks. Never use harsh detergents.

Blot, never rub. For oil or grease, dust with talcum powder before consulting a dry cleaner within 24 hours.

Always iron on the reverse, on low to medium heat. Never iron directly on zari — place a thin muslin cloth between the iron and the zari.

Air the saree for an hour before storing. Never store damp. If you've worn it in humid weather, sun-dry it briefly (15 minutes max, indirect sunlight) before folding.
